How to write a good blog post
Most people are not natural born writers, and that’s okay. It’s an acquired skill, taking time to hone and finesse. Long-form content takes time, effort and a whole lot of research, which is what puts many people off from doing it. Yes, Instagram and TikTok are sexy, and once you’ve hit the mark, you should have good engagement. But your website and blog will likely be around for much longer, but keep in mind it’ll be a slow burn.
Here are some elements of a good blog post:
A clear subject. Have an idea of what you want to write about. Add value to your industry by offering your own opinion about a specific topic. If it’s getting long-winded and confusing, don’t be afraid to break it up into multiple parts and multiple blog posts. Nobody’s asking you to write a thesis.
A catchy, SEO-friendly headline. Have a think about what keywords would help your audience find your website and figure out if it’s possible to incorporate them into post’s heading. But a word of warning: there’s no need to force keywords in there for the sake of it. If it feels organic and natural, include it.
A great hook. What are you educating your audience about? Is it worth their while to read chunky text? Will it help their understanding of the topic? If you’re going to write something down, make sure it’s useful and is valuable to your audience.
An effective solution. If you’re asking your audience a question, make sure you actually give an answer or solution! Nothing is more frustrating than reading all this text and not actually providing a resolution.
If you’re been staring at a blank screen for a while – or maybe you have a list of bullet points you simply can’t work out how to expand on – that’s okay. Writing is definitely not everyone’s forte.
